Household insurance is one of the most important types of insurance to have. For the first time buyer, the difference between the major types of household insurance can be confusing, especially if you are used to thinking in terms of "third party" v. "comprehensive" car insurance.
What is household insurance?Household insurance is the general term which covers any kind of insurance relating to your home, whether you are covering the structure of the building, or the contents within.
What is contents insurance?Contents insurance covers the "material possessions" within your house, such as electrical items, clothes, kitchen equipment, CDs and videos, carpets etc.
What is buildings insurance?Buildings insurance covers the structure of your home, including the roof, the walls, ceilings, and foundations.

Can I claim on both policies?Certain types of claim may result in a pay out from both policies, such as a major fire, as this could damage the structure of the building, as well as the contents inside it.
