Always close doors, windows and any roof light when you leave your caravan - even if it's only for a short time. Consider having window locks fitted.
Padlock gas cylinders to fixing clamps on older caravans and keep gas compartments locked on newer models.
You may also wish to have a tracking device fitted enabling the caravan to be tracked by the police or system operator if it is stolen.
Sold Secure tests caravan security products and publishes lists of devices that work. For further information about the scheme and a list of products contact the Sold Secure hotline (see HELP Panel) or your local Crime Prevention Officer.
Have a secure lock fitted to the door and make sure you use it.
Have an alarm fitted. Contact the Caravan Club or your local Crime Prevention Officer for advice. (See HELP panel.)
Have a time switch fitted. If you're out after dark, lights on in your caravan will make it look occupied.
Don't leave valuables such as jewellery in your caravan.
If you have, lock them out of sight.
Also, never leave vehicle registration documents in your caravan. They could help a thief to sell it on.
