Security marking helps the police identify and return stolen caravans or their contents to their rightful owners and may act as a deterrent to thieves.
Since 1992 all National Caravan Council (NCC) recognised manufacturers have stamped the 17 digit vehicle identification number (VIN) on to the vehicle chassis and etched it into the windows. If your vehicle is not marked in this way, get your chassis number or postcode etched on to all your windows.
Mark valuables and interior fitments with your postcode using a special etching tool or engraver. If you use an ultra violet security marker pen the writing may fade with time.
Keep a note of these numbers at home, along with a photo of your caravan.
Consider having the roof of your caravan marked with your postcode so that if it is stolen the police can identify it from the air or from a bridge. Contact the Automobile Association for information about the Trailer watch marking scheme (see HELP panel)
