Money Saving Tips
We hope the following money saving tips are useful for finding cheap home insurance:
- It is possible to reduce your home insurance premiums without cutting back on the cover. We recommend you always get at least 5 quotes and compare what each policy has to offer you.
- You can also call you insurance company or your local neighbourhood watch scheme and they will send you a list of things to do to make your house more secure.
- You should fit locks to all windows and level 5 (BS3621) mortise deadlocks locks to the doors. Most insurance companies will give you up to 10% off your contents insurance if you have these kind of locks fitted.
- You can also have an alarm fitted by a recognised alarm fitter, which your insurance company can recommend, and again this can give you up to 10% of your policy.
- Become a member of the local neighbourhood watch scheme.
- If you apply online you will normally get a discount of around 5%.
- Some company offer extra benefits to over 50 such as Saga, which we recommend.
- Mark your property with your postcode and make a list of valuables, noting the serial numbers of electronic appliances.
- We then recommend that you go outside, take your keys, and leave the house as if you were going out. Then look at the house though a burglar’s eyes – are there places where they could break in unseen? Have you fitted strong locks on your doors and windows? Would they have to make a lot of noise by breaking glass?
- Once you have taken the above steps make sure you contact your insurance company so they can reduce your policy accordingly.
