Aviva is a worldwide insurance brand, formerly known as the Norwich Union. It is the largest insurance company in the UK and the sixth largest in the world.
The company's roots can be traced back to Norwich in 1797, when an insurer was founded for buildings, goods and merchandise in the event of fire.
It merged with numerous insurers throughout the 20th century throughout the world, before joining with Commercial Union and General Accident in 1998, which sparked the company's gradual rebranding as Aviva. Throughout this time, it gradually extended its services to include car, home, health and life insurance.
Initially a mutual, the company floated on the stock exchange in 1997.
The company officially changed its name in the UK in June 2009, heralded by a controversial £9m advertisement campaign that featured various celebrities, though the rebranding had already been in effect since 2002 throughout its markets in Europe, America and Asia.
If you buy both contents and buildings cover, you'll get contents cover free. It offers wedding and festivals cover where your level of contents will be boosted by £3,000 in any month you celebrate religious festivals and for 30 days before and after your wedding.
It also offers new for old cover.
